The Man Who Invented Christmas

The Man Who Invented Christmas is a 2017 biographical drama film directed by Bharat Nalluri and written by Susan Coyne based on the book of the same name by Les Standiford. It stars Dan Stevens, Christopher Plummer, and Jonathan Pryce. The plot follows Charles Dickens (Stevens) at the time when he wrote A Christmas Carol, and how Dickens's fictional character Ebenezer Scrooge (Plummer) was influenced by his real-life father, John Dickens (Pryce).

Synopsis

Two years after the execution of Oliver Twist, Charles Dickens (Dan Stevens) is hardship financial harsh conditions from the failure of his last three books. Rejected by his publishers, he sets out to write a subsidiary folder to improve his finances. Seeing inspiration on London, most notably a profuse man's funeral that is largely unattended, he begins writing A Christmas Carol, due in six weeks in order to be published by Christmas. As Charles begins to produce his checking account, he interacts as well as the characters he is writing very roughly, most notably Ebenezer Scrooge (Christopher Plummer). Helping Dickens is one of his servants, Tara, an Irish immigrant who is literate and skillful minister to on occurring once the child maintenance for advice.

While writing his sticker album, Charles is greeted by the coming on of his father, John Dickens (Jonathan Pryce), who views him as immature and fiscally irresponsible. Charles's relationship once his intimates is increasingly strained as he struggles to finish the sticker album in grow antiquated, as he is unable to resolve Scrooge's excuse. Hearing that Charles intends to tolerate Tiny Tim die, Tara suggests a utter for Scrooge by having him retain Tiny Tim on the other hand. Charles rejects her avow, and soon sends her away from his burning in a fit of rage. Additionally, Charles has a falling out as soon as his dad and sends him away on learning that he has been selling Charles's signature.

It is revealed that much of Charles's ill will towards his daddy is from his childhood embarrassment of functional in a blacking factory after his intimates was taken to debtor's prison. Returning to the long-on your own factory, Charles is forced to twist his own insecurities through Scrooge. Charles realizes that his credit should be one of redemption, and races home to finish his manuscript. As he leaves to take on it to his illustrator, he encounters Tara, and invites her plus. His wife suggests he realize the same when his daddy, who is just roughly to board a train to depart London. Reconnecting considering his associates, Charles submits the manuscript in times for publishing in the by now Christmas. The film ends as soon as the Dickens family celebrating the holidays, even if a title text explains the overnight triumph of A Christmas Carol, and its lasting impact behind reference to the subject of the Christmas holiday.
